Zhejiang is located along the coast, affected by typhoon every year. In 2018, super typhoon Maria storming through, we sorted out all the typhoons that have landed in Zhejiang on the records since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In the form of data journalism, we present typhoons that have landed in Zhejiang.
What makes this project innovative?
The topic planning of the product is creative – use data to analyze typhoons landed in Zhejiang in the past 68 years, from various perspectives. It also added typhoon Maria’s real-time path map. It was the first among the new media products.
What was the impact of your project? How did you measure it?
Although based on data, the product also shows a dynamic demonstration of how typhoon is generated. So it is not only news worthy, but also informative. In the product, it shows 43 complete typhoon routes, readers can get the information in the most straightforward way. In terms of data, it covers city, county and district, which is more comprehensive than similar products. After the product was released, it achieved over 280,000 clicks.
