“Oreille du Campus”is an online orientation site that presents public and private higher education structures, available training opportunities, academic admission requirements, job prospects. Available at the address http://www.oreilleducampus.org, this site of orientation integrates a search engine which facilitates the research of the various categories of formations which offer the public or private universities of the member countries of the UEMOA space (The Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger, Togo countries were chosen for a pilot phase).
The main objective is to give an overview of career guidance internationally and to provide the appropriate information, to help students, graduates and parents of students in the choice of training courses who respond to their aspirations and career guidance projects.
The idea of the project was born from the observation of the mismatch between training and employment, which constitutes in Africa, one of the major causes linked to unemployment. This is partly due to the lack of awareness of offers in higher education training areas, and the absence of an online orientation guide that disseminates professional and technical training courses.
This project is a remarkable technological innovation that will greatly facilitate the choice of a training course, and allow students, new graduates and parents of pupils, now to have the credible and accurate information they need. course, their orientation, their stay in the city of their choice.
What makes this project innovative?
The innovation of the site www.oreilleducampus.org lies in the fact that it makes it much easier to choose a training path from one country to another, without having to travel. It is worth noting that once the bachelor's degree is obtained, students and parents are concerned about the continuation of university studies for the new bachelor or the new bachelor. This sometimes leads them to move from one region, one locality, or one country to another to get information on the training to be done. In addition, this online orientation guide can reach at any time a very large public and accessible to many people, allows dialogue with the user in real time, and adapt the sequence of operations and processing requests the needs of each user of the site.
What was the impact of your project? How did you measure it?
The impact created by the Oreille Du Campus project is to fill the "need to be informed and understand". Students find that training options are numerous and also face a variety of data sources. Indeed, how can they, in the absence of help, make a choice in the vast universe of trades and professions that exist? Thanks to the site oreilleducampus.org, they have at their disposal, information "ready for use", so directly exploitable to guide them. "Information gives power," they say. By initiating this project, we are convinced that African students will make better choices that will positively affect their professional lives and the quality of higher education will certainly be enhanced. Thanks to the website www.oreilleducampus.org, the baccalaureate candidate, the new bachelor and the student will be able to establish an action plan through the exploitation of the appropriate information through structured research. The system enables them to better identify training courses by providing detailed information on the required or recommended preparation for admission: admission requirements, skills required, job opportunities, etc. This will greatly contribute to the success rates and quality of education in our education systems. In addition, the association "Oreille Du Campus" attracts a large community of students, students and parents (more than 40,000 active members on our Facebook page), who are constantly on the hunt for information. This is what led us to conceive this device to the extent of multiple concerns in this direction. This core community is a target audience that allows us to evaluate our work. Added to this are the hundreds of calls that we receive about a day, constituting questions, proposals, feedback on the information available on the website; and also institutional managers who would like to publish information on the training offers offered in their universities and training centers.
Source and methodology
The information available on the website www.oreilleducampus.org, comes from the following data sources: interviews organized with the different heads of departments and faculties of public universities and with the promoters of private universities; directory of approved / recognized schools recognized by the ministries of education of the project member countries. As a rule of thumb, in order for the information to help the student to orient himself, it is necessary to decompose and then recompose the data, since it is frequent for the pupil to ignore the information he needs, to be unable to obtain this information. he wants, and does not know how to exploit what he has. Thus, the specifications (requests) provided by the user on the website oreilleducampus.org, are exploited by a computer program that will tap into a database, in which the training offers are classified and listed according to the attributes. which may correspond to any requests from the user. The website oreilleducampus.org offers two modes of information acquisition: structured search and direct access. In the structured search mode, the user can query the search engine on each of the training courses that interest him, by asking specific questions and getting answers just as easily. The direct access mode makes it possible to consult in full the information on the training courses by faculties or departments according to the countries.
